Job Description

The Patient Coordinator I role at Mount Sinai Health System is a critical position that requires excellent communication and organizational skills. As a Patient Coordinator, you will be the first point of contact for patients, either in person or via telephone, and will be responsible for ensuring that patients have the necessary information and support to navigate our healthcare system.

Responsibilities

1. Greet patients and update their insurance and demographic information in our practice management system.
2. Verify patient insurance and ensure that our physicians accept their insurance plan.
3. Communicate with staff regarding patient arrival and ensure that patient medical records are available for physicians.
4. Process and update HIPAA-related paperwork and other institutional forms as necessary.
5. Collect or retrieve referrals or insurance authorizations as required.
6. Monitor the waiting room and ensure that patients are kept informed of wait times.
7. Collect patient co-pays and provide receipts following established cash-control processes.
8. Schedule follow-up appointments as needed and provide patients with guidelines for requesting medical records.
9. Perform simple charge entry tasks or enter payments collected from patients and prepare cashiers' deposits.

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent required. One year of experience in a physician practice setting preferred. Must have a minimum of one week of on-site training, which will be provided by our practice. Experience with IDX or other practice management systems a plus.
