Position Summary:
A Food Safety Inspector plays a crucial role in safeguarding public health by ensuring that food products are safe, nutritious, and accurately labeled. This position involves inspecting food items and enforcing compliance with regulations and standards established by governmental bodies. Key responsibilities include evaluating food products and production methods, identifying potential health risks, and ensuring adherence to sanitation and safety protocols.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform inspections of food manufacturing facilities.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local food safety laws and standards.
- Assess food products, ingredients, and production methods for contamination or safety breaches.
- Monitor cleanliness and hygiene practices in food handling and preparation areas.
- Identify and document violations, potential health risks, and safety issues.
- Review and verify food labeling for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Educate food industry personnel on safety standards and best practices.
- Compile detailed reports of inspection outcomes and suggest corrective measures.
- Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure previous violations have been rectified.
- Stay informed about updates in food safety legislation and industry trends.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- At least 2 years of experience in food safety, quality assurance, or a related field.
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in food science, biology, microbiology, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Certification as a Food Safety Professional is preferred.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations and standards (e.g., FDA, USDA, HACCP).
- Proficient in conducting comprehensive inspections and audits of food processing and handling facilities.
- Ability to enforce quality control measures and standards effectively.
- Strong analytical skills to identify problems and propose effective solutions.
- Skilled in using tools and equipment necessary for food sampling and inspection.
