Job Overview

Position Title: Vehicle Operator
Department: Family Wellness
Reports To: Program Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Compensation: Starting at $20.19

Position Summary: Responsible for the safe operation of a government vehicle to transport children to various destinations, including the center and medical appointments, as required.


Key Responsibilities: To excel in this role, the individual must successfully perform the following duties; additional tasks may be assigned as necessary:

  • Ensure all passengers are secured with seatbelts.
  • Utilize appropriate car seats for children under 8 years old or under 4 feet 9 inches tall.
  • Prohibit the use of alcohol, drugs, or any impairing substances while driving.
  • Comply with California's Wireless Communications Device Law.
  • Follow all traffic safety regulations and signals.
  • Adhere to established transportation schedules as directed by the Assistant Program Director.
  • Communicate location updates via text to the Program Director using work-issued devices.
  • Maintain privacy by turning off work cell phones after hours.
  • Follow all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Refrain from using government vehicles for personal matters.
  • Complete other assigned duties as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not involve supervisory duties.

Qualifications: The candidate must fulfill each essential duty satisfactorily. The following requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:


Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED.


Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence. Capable of writing simple correspondence and effectively presenting information.


Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.


Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and solve problems.


Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.


Certificates and Licenses:

  • Valid California driver's license.
  • No more than 1 preventable accident in the last 2 years.
  • No serious traffic violations in the last 12 months.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Experience working with children (1+ years).
  • At least 21 years of age.

Work Environment: The work environment is typically moderate in noise level.


Physical Demands: Regularly required to sit, use hands, and communicate. Occasionally required to stand and lift up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision.
