Job Summary

Wake Forest University seeks a highly skilled Building Systems Manager to join its Facilities, Real Estate, and Planning team. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and managing improvement programs for HVAC, Building Automation, Electrical, and Plumbing Systems on the Reynolda Campus and perimeter properties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with Maintenance and Utilities leadership and operations teams to develop and implement energy management projects.
  • Monitor HVAC automation functions and analyze energy consumption within each building, identifying areas for improvement and recommending changes as necessary.
  • Optimize systems function and building performance, monitor building automation systems, and review all building system operations to make recommendations for changes.
  • Perform building retro-commissioning efforts on existing facilities, working closely with maintenance staff to improve BAS control sequence, assess BAS alarms, and make changes to improve conditions.
  • Conduct regular energy audit walk-throughs of each building to determine high energy sources and recommend corrective actions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field with a specialized technical license, CEM, and/or other certification.
  • 6-10 years of experience in higher education, institutional, or similar multi-site maintenance operations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical knowledge of building systems and generally accepted best practices in operations and efficiency methodologies related to such systems.
  • Ability to effectively understand and utilize control systems and other computer software systems to monitor, interface, diagnose, and troubleshoot systems as required.
  • Ability to work with maintenance managers to coordinate and direct maintenance staff in improved operating procedures, retro-commissioning efforts, and other system-related activities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with control strategies for institutional or commercial HVAC systems.
  • Prefer a minimum of three years of hands-on experience with Building Automation Systems, including Johnson Controls Metasys, Schneider Electric/Yamas, and Alerton Control Systems.
Accountabilities

Responsible for own work only. Occasionally, may supervise student workers or temporary help.

Physical Requirements

Medium work. Climbing, stooping, kneeling, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing. Close visual acuity is required for tasks such as operating machines, using measurement devices, and/or visual inspections of small parts or devices.
