Position: Bilingual Speech-Language Pathology Support Specialist

Immediate Supervisor(s): Supervising SLP and Executive Director of Special Programs

POSITION SUMMARY:
  • Design and deliver speech-language pathology services to students experiencing speech and language challenges.
  • Conduct standard assessments and implement therapeutic strategies to alleviate or minimize issues that hinder students' educational progress.
  • Operate under the guidance of a supervising Speech-Language Pathologist.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Valid Texas Department of Licensure state license in speech pathology.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish (both oral and written).
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Understanding of assessment methods, rehabilitation, and treatment of speech-language disorders.
  • Capability to instruct and manage student behavior effectively.
  • Proficient in computer usage, word processing, and software pertinent to the field and district reporting.
  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Effective communication skills in both oral and written formats.
  • Interpersonal skills conducive to teamwork.
  • Ability to collaborate as part of a team.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Entry-level experience is acceptable.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and implement tailored individual and group therapy sessions aligned with speech and language objectives outlined in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Provide indirect services as specified in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) and as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Create a supportive learning environment that is appropriate for the developmental level and interests of students.
  • Establish and maintain discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
ASSESSMENT:
  • Conduct routine screenings as determined by the supervising SLP.
  • Administer standardized tests without interpretation as directed by the supervising SLP.
CONSULTATION:
  • Collaborate with classroom educators, parents, and other professionals to enhance classroom activities aimed at improving communication skills for all students.
  • Provide professional development opportunities in assigned schools to assist staff in recognizing and understanding communication deficits in students under the supervision of the SLP.
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents regarding therapy goals and student needs as directed by the supervising SLP.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation as required.
  • Adhere to policies established by federal and state laws, TDLR regulations, and district policies.
  • Follow all district and campus routines and regulations.
  • Engage in professional development activities to enhance skills related to job responsibilities.
  • Provide therapy and attendance logs as required by district procedures.
  • Comply with TDLR regulations to maintain licensure.
  • Plan and schedule services efficiently.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Follow the A-Z Special Education Operating Guidelines.
ADMISSION, REVIEW & DISMISSAL:
  • Compile and maintain necessary reports and documentation.
  • Provide requested documentation for ARD meetings.
  • Attend ARD committee meetings with the Supervising SLP as requested and in compliance with TDLR.
  • Adhere to all district and campus routines and regulations.

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; specialized and adaptive equipment used by students.
  • Posture: Frequent standing; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent walking and reaching.
  • Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) may be required for positioning students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non-ambulatory students, and moving adaptive equipment.
  • Environment: Work indoors and outdoors (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; potential exposure to biological hazards.
  • Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Professional Dress: Attire must be clean, neat, and appropriate for the assignment, adhering to any additional standards set by the Supervisor and approved by the Superintendent. Visible body piercings (except earrings) are not permitted, and visible tattoos must be covered at all times.

  • Performance in this position will be evaluated annually.
