Job Overview

Position Summary: The Material Handler/Forklift role is essential to the operational efficiency of American Packaging Corporation. This position involves various responsibilities that contribute to a safe and productive work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Primary Duties: The following tasks are integral to this position:

  • Engage in comprehensive training and actively participate in the STOP Safety Program to support the organization's goal of achieving a zero-accident rate.
  • Operate various types of forklifts, including ride-on, scissor lifts, and walk-behind units, in a safe manner.
  • Supply manufacturing equipment with necessary raw materials such as films, boxes, adhesives, and papers.
  • Efficiently wrap and store finished products while adhering to pallet location protocols.
  • Organize outbound shipments according to release information for optimal efficiency.
  • Maintain open communication with fellow team members in the shipping and receiving department.
  • Handle the loading and unloading of freight arriving at and departing from the facility.
  • Manage the recharging and upkeep of electric forklift batteries.
  • Conduct accurate monthly inventory counts.
  • Utilize the AS400 system for material reception and label creation as needed.
  • Organize and stack unused pallets to maintain a tidy workspace.
  • Ensure a clean and orderly shipping and receiving area.
  • Follow all safety protocols established by the company.
  • Be available for all scheduled shifts and any required overtime.
  • Participate in mandatory company meetings.
  • Travel for business purposes may be necessary.
  • Perform any additional tasks as assigned.
Work Schedule:

Rotating shifts from 7am to 7pm and 7pm to 7am.

Qualifications:

Educational Background: A high school diploma or GED is required. Previous experience in a manufacturing setting is preferred but not mandatory.

Language Proficiency: Candidates must be able to read and interpret safety regulations, operational instructions, and procedural manuals. Effective communication skills are essential for interacting with customers and colleagues.

Mathematical Competence: Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and interpret data presented in various formats.

Problem-Solving Skills: Capable of addressing practical challenges and interpreting diverse instructions.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb. Candidates must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, utilizing assistance or mechanical aids for heavier items. Specific vision abilities include close vision and depth perception.

Work Environment:

The work environment may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts and airborne particles. Safety equipment such as hearing protection, safety glasses, and steel-toed shoes are mandatory.
