Position: Practical Nursing Specialist - Ob/GYN Department

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, 8-hour shifts, Monday - Friday from 8:30am - 5:00pm.

Overview: This role involves executing responsibilities within the framework of patient outreach, health education, counseling, and delivering supportive and restorative care under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed healthcare provider.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Welcome patients in the waiting area, guide them to clinical settings, manage check-outs, and respond to patient inquiries.
  • Conduct follow-up calls and provide telephone care as instructed by the physician/provider and RN.
  • Offer patient counseling and educational resources as directed by the provider (including verbal instructions, brochures, and handouts).
  • Handle immunization registration and account updates as necessary.
  • Prepare medical records ahead of appointments, including consent forms, ABNs, PHI releases, and obtaining medical records from other facilities.
  • Manage patient check-in processes: document chief complaints, vital signs, medical history, and capture charges for ancillary services.
  • Assist patients in completing summaries, medication/allergy reconciliations, and obtaining necessary treatment consents, including administering and documenting injections and medications as directed.
  • Prepare patients and examination rooms; assist the physician/provider during examinations, procedures, and treatments as needed.
  • Label and manage laboratory specimens, including pap smears, cultures, and biopsies; prepare laboratory and imaging requisitions.
  • Support coordination of ongoing patient care and follow-up, executing tasks as directed by RN and/or physician/provider, which may involve communication with patients, hospitals, labs, imaging centers, pharmacies, and insurance plans.
  • Document all activities, interventions, and patient/family responses in the medical record.
  • Ensure patient flow and follow-up testing and appointments with physicians.
  • Exemplify and uphold Nuvance Health Values.
  • Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance.

  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse licensure.
  • Fundamental medical knowledge and terminology.
  • Proficient computer skills/data entry.
  • Ability to accurately obtain patient vitals.
  • Experience in vaccine administration and medication preparation.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of one year of experience.
  • Proficiency in multiple languages.
  • Experience in phlebotomy.
  • Knowledge of EKG procedures.
Educational Requirements:
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited LPN Program.
Working Conditions:
  • Essential: Significant manual skills/motor coordination and finger dexterity.
  • Some occupational risk.
  • Medium to heavy physical effort; may exert up to 35 lbs. of force.
  • Potential exposure to dirt, odors, noise, and human waste.
