Survey Manager Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Survey Manager to join our Civil Engineering Group in our Lakewood, Colorado office. This surveyor will work on multiple projects across a broad range of project types.


The Survey Manager will apply knowledge of surveying principles and techniques in a broad area of land and construction surveying. Key responsibilities include:


  • Maintaining files of surveys and plats
  • Making independent decisions on surveying problems and methods
  • Managing survey crews and coordinating survey operations
  • Preparing survey proposals

Key responsibilities of the Survey Manager include:


  • Promoting work and assisting with survey proposal preparation
  • Assisting with client conferences
  • Sealing plats, legal descriptions, and ALTA Surveys
  • Preparing reports and correspondence with agencies and clients
  • Estimating staffing and survey equipment needs and schedules
  • Scheduling survey crews and office personnel
  • Reviewing final legal descriptions, survey plats, design surveys, and field notes reductions for accuracy and completeness
  • Training personnel
  • Providing periodic field observations during survey
  • Setting standards for survey department
  • Performing or directing computations for control surveys, subdivision of sections, boundary surveys, and easements
  • Making analysis of documentary and physical evidence
  • Writing and reviewing legal descriptions
  • Other duties as assigned

Required qualifications include:


  • Professional Land Surveyors license (PLS)
  • Ability to deal with clients
  • Ability to do advanced GPS and survey calculations
  • Minimum 12 years surveying experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage survey staff
  • Manages survey projects in a profitable manner
