Emerson Clinical Research Institute (ECRI) is a prominent network of research facilities dedicated to collaborating with community-based clinics in the D.C., VA, and MD regions. Our focus is on conducting phase II-IV clinical research studies within these clinics, which aim to provide essential healthcare services to minority populations lacking access to research opportunities. Our studies are supported by industry-sponsored research protocols for both adult and pediatric participants.

Position Summary

We are seeking a qualified Ophthalmology Technician eager to advance their career. This role is unique, offering the opportunity to engage deeply in the development of innovative medical treatments. The successful candidate will perform a variety of procedures, including BCVA, OCT, and FA, to support clinical research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

The selected individual will also be responsible for:

  • Managing clinical research protocols and educating patients on the significance of participating in clinical studies.
  • Overseeing recruitment directives and ensuring the achievement of financial targets.
  • Coordinating daily site operations while adhering to ECRI's Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintaining compliance with all federal, local, and regulatory requirements.
  • Engaging with study participants to facilitate study-related visits and follow-ups.
  • Collaborating closely with pharmaceutical sponsors and clinical research professionals.
  • Performing data entry for case report forms and study visits promptly.
  • Contributing to the development of case report forms and other clinical research activities as assigned.
Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a health-related field.
  • A minimum of three years of experience as an Ophthalmology Technician, including skills in auto-refraction, refraction, trial-lens refraction, and OCT/FA photography.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and web-based systems.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a strong focus on customer service.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Motivation and self-starting capabilities, with the ability to conduct independent research activities.
Working Conditions

This position involves direct patient interaction and may require performing phlebotomy procedures. Candidates should be aware of potential occupational health and safety risks, including exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens, and must adhere to universal precautions when handling biological samples.
