Job Summary:

Yale New Haven Health is seeking a skilled Histotechnologist to join our team in the preparation and processing of surgical specimens for examination by pathologists. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for receiving, accessioning, processing, embedding, cutting, staining, mounting, and labeling specimens.

Responsibilities:

  • Technical Duties:
    • Prepare gross surgical specimens for examination by pathologists.
  • Other Duties:
    • Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing specimens and slides.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Investigate and document problems with unacceptable specimens.
  • Problem Solving:
    • Follow established guidelines for troubleshooting instrument, reagent, or specimen problems.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Comply with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Participate in staff meetings and promote effective working relationships.
  • Customer Service:
    • Use patient-centered values and conduct all work activities with respect for the rights and wishes of patients, visitors, and patients' families.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both).
    • Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnology program within the last five years.
    • OR Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), AND one year full-time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory.
  • Experience:
    • Three years of histology experience preferred.
  • Licensure:
    • ASCP certification preferred.
