About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Dental Assistant to join our team at Hennepin County. As a clinical operations lead, you will play a key role in facilitating the smooth operation of our dental clinic, ensuring that our patients receive the highest level of care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a lead worker for dental assistants, assisting with scheduling work assignments, delegating duties, and providing input for staff performance evaluations.
  • Participate in the selection of new staff and provide orientation and training for both new and existing staff.
  • Monitor and order dental supplies, maintaining dental department equipment in accordance with manufacturer's directions and dental department policy and protocol.
  • Monitor patient flow and assist staff to ensure all patient services are rendered appropriately.
  • Fulfill dental assistant absences as needed and assist chairside with diagnostic, oral surgery, fixed and removable prosthodontics, endodontics, pedodontics, and restorative procedures.
  • Support dental assistants in resolving guest concerns and issues.
  • Perform other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives.
Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited program as a dental assistant and two years or more of experience as a dental assistant.
  • Possession of a valid license by the Minnesota Board of Dentistry.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing leadership in a clinic or healthcare setting.
  • Experience in healthcare business operations.
  • Providing culturally sensitive care to patients of diverse ages, ethnicities, and countries of origin.
  • Using Dentrix to enter and retrieve Electronic Dental Record (EDR) patient data quickly and efficiently.
  • Maintaining Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) security and privacy compliance.
  • Problem-solving complex situations when there is a conflict or ambiguity.
  • Successful completion of a Restorative Functions training program.
  • Knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service.
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively to many competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Help staff develop skills and build their strengths in an ever-changing work environment.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Prepare, clean, and properly handle dental equipment and instruments.
  • Follow proper Infection Control and Health & Safety procedures.
  • Adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.
  • Demonstrate respect and appreciation for the diversity of co-workers and clients regardless of race, age, gender, disability, values, lifestyle perspectives, or interests.
  • Effectively communicate with department staff, healthcare center staff, patients, interpreters, and the community while maintaining discretion and confidentiality.
Language Skills
