POSITION OVERVIEW:
_

Perform thorough cleaning of teeth, removing tartar, stains, and deposits using specialized dental tools.
Document and assess patient medical histories.
Conduct examinations of gums using probes to identify any periodontal issues or signs of gum disease.
Visually and physically inspect gums for abnormalities or indications of disease.
Take and process dental x-rays.
Record conditions of decay and disease for evaluation and treatment by the dentist.
Examine lymph nodes under the patient's chin to identify any swelling or tenderness that may suggest oral cancer.
Deliver clinical services or health education aimed at enhancing and preserving the oral health of patients or the broader community.
Apply fluoride treatments or other preventive agents to halt dental decay.
Manage patient recall systems effectively.
Administer local anesthetics as required.
Remove excess cement from the surfaces of teeth.
Encourage preventive dental care practices to enhance patient oral health.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Medicine and Dentistry - Understanding of the information and techniques necessary for diagnosing and treating human injuries, diseases, and deformities.

This encompasses symptoms, treatment options, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health measures.
Customer and Personal Service - Familiarity with principles and processes for delivering customer and personal services, including needs assessment, quality standards, and customer satisfaction evaluation.

Biology - Insight into plant and animal organisms, their tissues, cells, functions, interdependencies, and interactions with their environment.

Education and Training - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum design, teaching, and assessment of training effectiveness.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED.
Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited hygiene program.
Successful completion of the National Board Examination, clinical exam, and state jurisprudence exam.
State hygiene license.
Current CPR certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bilingual or multilingual capabilities.
