Budget Analyst Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Budget Analyst to join our team at the Arkansas Government Job. As a Budget Analyst, you will play a critical role in providing financial guidance and support to our agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and analyze agency operations, funding sources, programs, and fiscal records to determine budgetary needs and effects of new programs.
  • Review budget requests from agencies to determine completeness, accuracy, compliance with current regulations, and problem areas.
  • Meet with agency directors and/or fiscal personnel to obtain additional information, discuss budgetary needs, and to provide advice on budgetary procedural problems.
  • Evaluate agency requests and make recommendations to executive and legislative officials and staff based on analysis, justification, and program knowledge.
  • Attend various executive and legislative meetings to respond to technical questions and to clarify information.
  • Participate in drafting legislation and monitor and revise legislation during legislative sessions.
  • Provide technical assistance to agencies concerning a variety of fiscal-related activities.

Requirements:

  • The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in accounting, economics, finance, financial management, general business or a related field.
  • Ability to prepare, present, and review oral and written information and reports.
  • Ability to research and analyze programs and fiscal records, determine needs, and make recommendations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply budgetary and fiscal policies and procedures.
