Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and analyze detailed cost reports, including product cost analysis, variance reports, profitability reports, and project financial performance.
  • Monitor and analyze costs related to materials, labor, and overhead, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company standards.
  • Investigate variances between actual and standard costs, providing actionable insights for cost control and improvement.
  • Provide project-specific cost analysis, ensuring financial objectives are met for ongoing and future projects and helping management view the profitability of our various product and/or service lines.
  • Assist in the development of annual budgets and periodic forecasts for manufacturing and operating costs, including project-based costs.
  • Provide input on cost-saving initiatives and contribute to financial planning for the entire company, focusing on project profitability.
  • Work with project managers to align project budgets with TSS's financial goals and provide forecasts for future projects.
  • Conduct regular inventory reconciliations with Supply Chain Manager, including assisting in physical inventory counts and analyzing inventory valuation.
  • Monitor project-related financial records to ensure that all project costs are accurately tracked and reported.
  • Ensure compliance with TSS's financial objectives and project contracts.
  • Manage revenue recognition for project-related services in compliance with accounting standards and TSS policies.
  • Reconcile project billings with costs, ensuring accurate revenue recognition based on contractual terms and progress.
  • Support project managers in reviewing costs and investigating variances between budgeted and actual costs.
  • Identify areas for improvement in cost accounting and financial processes, implementing changes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Lead efforts to automate and streamline cost accounting, project accounting, and financial reporting procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of process narrative documentation for internal controls to safeguard company assets and monitor they are being followed.
  • Complete month-end and year-end close processes related to inventory, manufacturing work orders, and project accounting, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, and general ledger account reconciliations, including project-specific journal entries.
  • Generate project performance metrics, margin analysis, and cost-to-profit reports.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory standards, and TSS policies.
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation for internal and external audits, including audits related to project financials.
  • Support leadership by providing financial insights, including profitability analysis for projects.
  • Collaborate with the operations, procurement, and production teams to develop cost strategies and provide financial support for pricing and profitability analysis.
  • Work with project managers and leadership to ensure project financial performance aligns with company objectives.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to leadership, supporting decision-making for both day-to-day operations and long-term strategy.
  • Perform ad hoc accounting projects as needed under the supervision of the Controller and CFO.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA or CMA is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in manufacturing, technology, or project-based industries.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, including job costing, standard costing, and revenue recognition for project accounting.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skills; experience with cost accounting and project accounting software, NetSuite, or project management software is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and present financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
