Special Education Teacher Leader

We are seeking a highly skilled Special Education Teacher Leader to join our team at the Dallas Independent School District. This is a full-time position that requires a valid Texas teacher certificate with required endorsements for subject and subject level assigned.
The estimated salary for this position is $65,000 - $90,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
Job DescriptionThis is a campus-based position that requires regular and punctual attendance at the worksite. The Special Education Teacher Leader will be responsible for collaborating with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop Individual Education Plans (IEP) through the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process for each student assigned.
The Special Education Teacher Leader will also implement an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
- Collaborating with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop IEPs through the ARD Committee process
- Implementing an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students
- Planning and using appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned
- Working cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed, and assisting special education students in regular classes with assignments
- Participating in ARD Committee meetings on a regular basis, and sharing the responsibility of interpreting the educational programs to the community through such activities as open house and PTA meetings
- Consulting with classroom teachers regarding management of student behavior according to IEP, and presenting subject matter according to guidelines established by IEP
- Conducting ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing, compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other required documents
- Creating a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
- Managing student behavior and administering discipline, including intervening in crises and physically restraining students as necessary according to IEP
To be successful in this role, the Special Education Teacher Leader must have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university, and a valid Texas teacher certificate with required endorsements for subject and subject level assigned.
Key qualifications include:
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee process and Individual Educational Plan goal setting process and implementation
- Demonstrated general knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel
- Demonstrated knowledge of laws, regulations, practices, principles, and procedures pertaining to auditing and accounting
- Demonstrated ability to write clear and conclusive audit work papers and concise narrative audit reports
- Demonstrated tact and diplomacy in working with various district and non-district personnel
- Demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position
