Cardiac Sonographer Specialist

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Cardiac Sonographer to support the VA San Diego Healthcare System. The selected candidate will work in all aspects of cardiac ultrasonography in the medical center.
About the Role:
The Cardiac Sonographer will provide knowledge and understanding of normal/abnormal cardiac anatomy and pathophysiology. They will analyze echocardiograms to detect abnormalities of LV wall motion and overall cardiac function, prosthetic valve function, presence of cardiac anomalies, and awareness of findings relative to cardiothoracic surgical repairs.
Responsibilities:
- Provide overall knowledge and understanding of normal/abnormal cardiac anatomy and pathophysiology.
- Analyze echocardiograms to detect abnormalities of LV wall motion and overall cardiac function.
- Understand the indications to use echocardiographic contrast and give contrast per the VA Protocol.
- Determine what measurements are needed for regurgitant lesions and know how to obtain good quality images.
- Maintain adequate supplies and equipment for the Echocardiography Laboratory.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees at varying levels.
- Ability to provide, or provide for, staff development and training.
Qualifications:
- Completion of formal training program in dysrhythmia recognition and hold certification from such a course prior to performing cardiac Contract Monitor Technician services.
- Minimum Experience – 3 years experience (excluding training).
- Holds and maintains an active AHA BLS certification.
- Must be able to accomplish routine work with minimum oversight; required to perform duties on own initiative.
Physical Requirements:
- Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift.
- Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist.
- Lift up to 20 lbs.
- Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
- Push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
