Job Summary

Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans within 8 hours of patient admission.
  • Orient and educate patients regarding hospitalization, medication management, and treatment options.
  • Document patient information accurately and timely in the medical record, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of medication policies, practices, and side effects, ensuring safe and effective administration.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment plans, promoting positive patient outcomes.
  • Manage crisis situations effectively, utilizing evidence-based interventions and positive approaches.
  • Participate in program development and performance improvement activities, contributing to the advancement of psychiatric care.
  • Engage in ongoing education and training, staying up-to-date with best practices and research in psychiatric nursing.
  • Provide mentorship and support to students and new employees, fostering a culture of excellence and teamwork.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing required.
  • BSN preferred.
  • A minimum of 6 months of continuous employment with the hospital, with a 90-day evaluation indicating meeting expectations.
  • Successful completion of central and unit-specific orientation programs, including the medication proficiency examination.
  • The incumbent must be physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent, mentally ill patients.
Clearances and Certifications
  • CPR certification based on AHA standards, including both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC) certification.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state where the facility is located or a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state.
  • Act 33 with renewal.
  • Act 34 with renewal.
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
