Diesel Mechanic Job Description

First Student is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will play a critical role in maintaining and repairing our fleet of school buses to ensure vehicle readiness and safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and annual DOT maintenance inspections on school buses.
  • Diagnose and repair complex issues with brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, and transmissions.
  • Ensure work orders are completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist with mobile emergency services as needed.
Requirements:
  • Valid driver's license required; willingness to obtain CDL while employed.
  • At least 1 year of automotive or diesel maintenance and repair experience or technical school education.
  • Possess a mechanic's tool set.
  • Willingness to participate in ASE certification program; training, testing, and bonuses provided.

We offer a competitive hourly rate, $26-$37 per hour based on experience and qualifications, as well as a $3000 sign-on bonus. Additionally, we provide company-paid ASE testing and training materials, an additional $.25 per hour for each ASE certification, and a Monday-Friday schedule with consistent, year-round work.
