Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the guidance of management, this role involves leading, training, supervising, and engaging in the more intricate and challenging tasks performed by staff responsible for delivering park maintenance, landscaping, renovation, and repair services. The position also entails executing a variety of technical responsibilities pertinent to designated areas of duty.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides technical and functional oversight over junior staff members.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct, plan, oversee, assess, and actively participate in the tasks of personnel responsible for park maintenance, landscaping, renovation, and repair services.
  • Supervise the operation of equipment and tools utilized in park maintenance, landscaping, renovation, and repair services.
  • Estimate time, materials, and equipment necessary for assigned projects; requisition materials as needed; ensure timely receipt of ordered parts.
  • Train assigned personnel in work methods, techniques, and equipment operation.
  • Verify the accuracy and quality of work performed by assigned staff, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
  • Perform comprehensive turf maintenance tasks, including watering, mowing, weeding, trimming, aerating, renovating, and fertilizing turf; maintain flower beds and landscaped areas.
  • Trim and prune bushes, trees, and shrubs to maintain health and provide clearance for walkways.
  • Engage in the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems, including changing and adjusting heads and maintaining controllers.
  • Operate a full range of park maintenance vehicles and equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and preventive care.
  • Maintain playground equipment and related facilities, including installation and repair tasks.
  • Conduct pest control duties, including the application of chemicals to manage weeds, insects, and plant diseases.
  • Supervise and instruct staff in the safe use of pesticides and herbicides.
  • Clear fallen trees, stumps, and debris resulting from storms.
  • Identify maintenance needs and safety hazards.
  • Perform general cleanup duties, including raking leaves and picking up trash.
  • Coordinate with event management for the setup and removal of equipment for special occasions.
  • Participate in snow removal activities as needed.
  • Respond to public inquiries and provide information regarding park rules and regulations.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Experience: Four years of relevant park maintenance and repair experience, including one year in a supervisory capacity.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to obtain a commercial driver's license within one year of hire.
  • Ability to obtain a Pesticide Applicator's Certificate within one year of hire.
  • Ability to obtain Traffic Control Flagger and Forklift Certificates within one year of hire.
  • Ability to obtain OSHA 10-Hour Safety Certification within one year of hire.
  • Ability to obtain Confined Space Safety Certification within one year of hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  • Weed control methods and the proper use of chemicals.
  • Operations and services of a park maintenance program.
  • Principles of lead supervision and training.
  • Occupational hazards and safety practices relevant to park maintenance.
