Job Summary:

CARTI is seeking a skilled Surgical Technician to facilitate the operative or other invasive procedure by preparing and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment. The successful candidate will maintain the sterile field and anticipate and respond to the needs of the surgical team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of CARTI.
  • Function as a scrub person during operative and other invasive procedures by:
    • Assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure.
    • Preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure.
    • Performing accounting procedures in concert with the RN circulator.
    • Assisting with placement of sterile drapes.
    • Providing instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure.
    • Maintaining an organized sterile field.
    • Ensuring sterility of the field and taking corrective actions as needed.
    • Preparing sterile dressings.
  • Clean and prepare surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas.
  • Assist with postprocedural cleaning of the operative or other invasive procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients.
  • Participate in ongoing educational and competency verification activities applicable to scrub person activities.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
Requirements:
  • Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One year perioperative services experience preferred.
  • Certified surgical technologist (CST) preferred or comparable experience.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

This position involves a physically demanding, high-stress environment with exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, and other hazardous materials, radiation, and repetitive motions.

Reasoning Ability:

The successful candidate will be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Interpersonal Skills:

The Surgical Technician will interact and communicate both verbally and in written form, exchanging information regarding patients with physicians and other departmental personnel, and outside agencies on a frequent basis while respecting the confidentiality of patient information.

Physical Demands:

The employee will regularly be required to talk or hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment:

This position involves potential exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, and other hazardous materials, radiation, and repetitive motions.
