Job Summary

As a Surgical Technologist at Atrium Health, you will play a vital role in providing patient care in the surgical suite. Your advanced surgical technology skills will be utilized to maintain a safe work environment and perform all related job responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply aseptic technique and its application to ensure quality patient care.
  • Assist in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments prior, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Assist the Registered Nurse circulator in preparation of the patient, assembly of supplies, instruments, equipment, and proper disposition of all specimens.
  • Perform duties according to department policy and procedure.
  • Monitor surgical supplies and instrumentation for sterility prior to use and ensure that supplies are used in a judicious manner.
  • Monitor and document sterilization activities for completion.
  • Participate in in-services, staff meetings, and the Performance Improvement Process.
  • Participate in educational opportunities to increase competency and meet personal needs and goals.
  • Assist in the development of policies, procedures, and standards.
  • May serve as a preceptor and a clinical resource to others.
Physical Requirements

This role requires working with occasional intermittent noise and exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, and chemicals. Ability to communicate and write is essential. Strenuous physical effort will require walking, stretching, bending, climbing stairs, twisting, and squatting or kneeling while performing tasks. May have lengthy periods of standing. Requires frequent use of side vision, lifting, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds.

Education, Training, and Experience

A High School Diploma or GED is required. Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider is required. A graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology or successful completion of a military training program for Surgical Technology or Operating Room Specialist is required. 2 years of operating room experience in a surgical technologist role is required. Current certification is preferred.
