Program Overview

By uniting individuals from various backgrounds and perspectives, we aim to promote positive transformations within our communities and beyond. The Future Faculty Diversity Program (FFDP) exemplifies our commitment to nurturing the next generation of scholars and leaders.

Traditionally, the FFDP was established to motivate graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, particularly those from historically underrepresented groups in the United States, to explore current or future faculty roles. As the program progresses, we are refining our objectives to ensure we identify candidates who, through their experiences and accomplishments, can demonstrate their capacity to:

  • Engage effectively with diverse groups of faculty, staff, and students
  • Contribute to our institutional commitment to community, diversity, and excellence
  • Uphold the principles of community that guide our institution
  • Exhibit their potential for success as faculty members based on their research and teaching backgrounds

This immersive three-day program offers participants a unique chance to understand the university's culture, interact with senior leaders, department heads, and faculty members, and gain invaluable insights into the academic profession. Attendees will hear from distinguished faculty and campus leaders about the interviewing process, strategies for negotiating job offers, and guidance on navigating the tenure process.

The program creates a supportive and inclusive atmosphere for participants to explore their interests, pose questions, and gain insights into academic life.

All transportation, lodging, and meal expenses will be covered for selected participants.

Requirements

  • Candidates pursuing a PhD, DVM, or MFA (expected graduation by May/June 2025), postdoctoral scholars, or early-career faculty or researchers
  • U.S. citizens or permanent residents
  • Individuals committed to advancing diversity and inclusion
  • Candidates who can contribute to fostering a community aligned with our principles
  • Individuals with experience working with diverse groups and an understanding of the challenges faced by various identities
  • Those interested in pursuing an academic career within the next two years
  • Individuals demonstrating potential to fill current or anticipated faculty vacancies
