Electromagnetic Warfare Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Electromagnetic Warfare Specialist to join our team at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. As an Electromagnetic Warfare Specialist, you will be responsible for developing and analyzing complex RF / microwave systems, waveforms, and wireless communications devices to support our government sponsors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate next generation Electronic Counter-Measures (ECM) systems while developing advanced techniques to defeat wireless threats
  • Perform tear down analyses and reverse engineer wireless devices
  • Analyze wireless communications systems robustness to interference
  • Work with ECM system vendors to optimize performance and effectiveness
  • Devise and participate in field tests to evaluate threat defeat effectiveness
Qualifications:
  • Masters in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of experience developing and analyzing RF / Microwave circuits and systems, including RF digital communications systems
  • Well versed in the development of wireless link budgets, radio wave propagation concepts, and RF circuit cascade analyses
  • Comprehensive understanding of digital signal processing, including digital modulation and demodulation concepts and signal coding
  • Skilled in RF and microwave test measurements / concepts and test equipment, including network analyzers, vector signal generators, vector signal analyzers, and oscilloscopes
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to generate effective proposals and technical reports.
  • Proven excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work independently or manage a team of engineers, and demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • The ability to work on-site at APL's main campus as well as at commercial and government test sites.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret clearance by start date, and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Team leadership and / or project management experience
  • Electronic warfare (EW) applications experience, including Electronic Support (ES), Force Protection (FP), Electronic Attack (EA), and Counter Unmanned Systems (CUxS)
  • Matlab experience simulating RF systems, including digitally modulated waveforms, receivers and transmitters
  • System level knowledge of digital signal processing architectures to process and respond to detected received signals
  • Familiarity with antenna types, patterns, and measurement techniques
  • Experience developing automated test programs to characterize RF transmitters and receivers
  • Hold a TS/SCI security clearance
