This role is responsible for providing administrative support to a Dean or large unit at Mississippi State University. The successful candidate will oversee a variety of administrative, fiscal, and staff support activities, requiring advanced knowledge and skills in areas such as budget administration, equipment management, and database management.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and facilitate meetings, program functions, and special events as required.
- Train and oversee lower-graded staff and/or students.
- Assist in administrative problem-solving, program/project planning, and execution of stated goals and objectives.
- Monitor and reconcile fiscal administration for the unit, including budgets, funding, grants, contracts, payroll, employment, travel, and purchasing.
- Provide support activities for the unit, such as answering telephones, resolving problems and inquiries, and reviewing and controlling correspondence.
- Schedule appointments and maintain calendars, and coordinate travel arrangements as required.
- Establish, update, and maintain unit files, inventories, and records, and implement data management systems as needed.
- Lead and guide the work of lower-level staff and supervise student employees as appropriate.
Education: diploma or equivalent in Information Technology, Business Administration, Statistics, Economics, or a closely related field.
Experience: 5-7 years of relevant experience, with substitution allowed for equivalent combinations of education and experience approved by the Department of Human Resources Management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software packages.
