The State of Montana is seeking a dedicated Roadway Maintenance Specialist. This role involves a diverse range of responsibilities, including labor, leadership, equipment operation, and driving for highway upkeep activities.
Key Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will:
- Operate various trucks and heavy machinery for tasks such as culvert installation and maintenance, landslide clearance, crack sealing, fence construction, bridge repairs, guardrail and sign installation, luminaire upkeep, roadway restoration, and vegetation management.
- Engage in pavement marking, striping operations, and snow and ice management.

Qualifications:
Maintenance Tech Level I:
- Minimum one year of experience driving heavy trucks or operating construction equipment.
- A valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A, Type II) with no restrictions, a tank endorsement, and a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate.
- Applicants with a learner's permit must obtain the necessary license within 30 days.
- Consideration may be given to applicants without experience for training assignments.
Maintenance Tech Level II:
- Requires one year of documented experience in road maintenance from a recognized city, county, or state highway department.
Maintenance Tech Level III:
- Requires three or more years of documented experience in road maintenance from a recognized city, county, or state highway department.
