Position Summary

We are currently seeking a Director of Medical Affairs (Chronic Pain Disorders). This role is pivotal in shaping the medical strategy and executing initiatives that align with the company's objectives for both approved and pipeline products. This position is designed for a seasoned expert in the scientific and medical fields, focusing on leading essential Medical Affairs deliverables, including scientific dialogue, evidence generation, and cross-functional collaboration. The role will specifically emphasize planning and executing activities related to AXS-14 for the treatment of fibromyalgia.

This position requires on-site presence at Axsome's headquarters for a minimum of three days each week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the scientific landscape and lead cross-functional collaborations to achieve business objectives by:
  • Overseeing the execution of the Integrated Evidence Generation Planning Process (IEGP), which includes Real-World Evidence (RWE) and high-priority Phase 4 studies.
  • Developing and implementing a cohesive medical strategy for assigned products that addresses both current and future business needs.
  • Facilitating Medical Core Team meetings to ensure alignment and execution of cross-functional deliverables.
  • Creating strategic scientific communication platforms that align with brand and franchise strategies throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Utilizing medical insights to inform and support brand strategy.
  • Collaborating with clinical and commercial teams to enhance Market Access, Commercial Development, and Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) activities.
  • Supporting the expert engagement plan and scientific communication strategy, including the development of content for medical congresses and educational materials.
  • Guiding the strategy for Independent Medical Education (IME) grants and evaluating medical education providers.
  • Conducting thorough reviews of CME/grant requests.
  • Performing medical and strategic evaluations of investigator-initiated trials (IITs).
  • Engaging with Field Medical teams to share insights and support regional needs.
  • Staying updated on scientific literature related to chronic pain management and fibromyalgia treatment.
  • Ensuring compliance with administrative activities and policies.
  • Managing vendors to operationalize Axsome's medical capabilities.
  • Developing and overseeing the Medical Affairs budget to ensure effective resource allocation.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MD, PhD in Neurology or Neuroscience, PharmD, DMD, or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in medical affairs or clinical development.
  • Expertise in fibromyalgia, chronic pain management, or rheumatology.
  • Experience in strategic and tactical planning for both pipeline and marketed products.
  • Willingness to work on-site Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Experience and Skills

  • Proven experience in strategic evidence development and scientific communication planning.
  • Background in leading Phase IV, RWE, and other post-marketing studies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and collaboration.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Willingness to travel as needed (approximately 30%).
  • Able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this position is $210,000 - $235,000. We encourage candidates of all levels to apply, as there may be flexibility regarding the final job title and responsibilities. The salary offer will consider various factors, including experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
