About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Transmission Line Design Engineer to join our team at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. As a key member of our Engineering Services group, you will play a critical role in providing solutions and services that help our customers protect and control critical electrical infrastructure and power systems worldwide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and Coordinate Civil Engineering Designs: Develop and lead civil engineering designs and reports for Substation greenfield and brownfield projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Technical Lead and Proposal Development: Assist with proposal development and serve as the Technical Lead for projects, providing expertise and guidance to ensure successful project execution.
  • Quality Assurance and Mentorship: Perform QA reviews and provide mentorship to less experienced engineers and designers, ensuring high-quality deliverables and knowledge transfer.
  • Estimation and Cost Management: Estimate labor, material, and construction costs for projects, ensuring accurate budgeting and cost control.
  • Field Inspections and Construction Support: Conduct field inspections, investigations, and provide construction support to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Document Creation and Review: Create construction bid documents, review contracts, specifications, bids, and offer recommendations to ensure project success.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Experience: 5+ years of civil engineering design experience in the electric utility industry.
  • Licensure: P.E. license.
  • Skills: Proficiency in substation civil engineering design, including site grading, drainage systems, site development, topographical specifications, surveying, geotechnical site boring identification, permitting procedures, right-of-way, property lines, easements, steel structure analysis and design, foundations and oil containment design, SPCC, PPC, and SWMP development, substation access and roadways design.
  • Soft Skills: Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of supervising and training new team members, proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), experience with structural analysis software, and familiarity with design codes and standards.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional Skills: Proficiency in additional structural analysis software, experience with design software, and familiarity with project management software.

Pay Range Data

Project Engineer II: $115,000 - $141,000 per year. Our pay ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location.
