Key Responsibilities:

As a Chemical Engineering intern at our refinery, you will have the chance to understand the fundamentals of process equipment and best practices, enhancing your analytical skills while learning how various engineering disciplines collaborate effectively. You will gain insights into different refinery operations by working alongside experienced professionals in specific areas of the refining process. This role often allows interns to explore multiple sectors of the refinery, providing a comprehensive view of plant operations. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to refine your communication skills in a professional setting.

Interns in Chemical Engineering typically engage in the following roles:

Process / Technical Service Engineers will collaborate on diverse projects within the Technical Services Department, applying your academic knowledge in practical scenarios. Most of our interns work in this capacity, gaining valuable experience that deepens their understanding of the refining landscape. Responsibilities may include: leading test runs to enhance refinery operations; conducting process engineering calculations related to various technologies; monitoring catalysts and adsorbents; and executing projects that recommend improvements to refining processes and equipment.

Operations Research Engineers may assist in developing models for planning, blending, scheduling, and processes to optimize refinery operations. These models support decisions on crude oil procurement, production scheduling, and overall operational efficiency. Typical assignments include validating production data, mass balancing, and creating graphical representations of refinery units.

Environmental Engineers focus on compliance projects across the refinery, gaining exposure to various process units. You will apply engineering principles to environmental initiatives, gaining a broad understanding of applicable regulations. Past projects may involve performing calculations for Risk Management Plans, engaging in inspections, and contributing to wastewater treatment projects.

Products Control / Economics Engineers may work on a range of projects that encompass operations, blending, and economic analysis within the refinery. You will learn about tank farm operations and the logistics of product distribution. Responsibilities may include analyzing process flow data, updating gasoline blend information, and developing tools to present operational data effectively.

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering
• Strong academic record
• Authorized to work in the US without the need for visa sponsorship
• Availability for multiple work terms is preferred
• A valid driver's license is required
• Concurrent enrollment in a degree-seeking program
• Military experience is a plus
• Compensation: Minimum - $31.08 per hour / Maximum - $40.50 per hour
