Position Summary and Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:
The Breastfeeding Support Specialist provides lactation support services and clinical management for breastfeeding mothers and infants, collaborating with other healthcare professionals, families, and significant others.

The specialist is responsible for actions defined by their professional certification, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of breastfeeding mothers and infants.

Additional responsibilities include:
- Identifying and preventing breastfeeding challenges.
- Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of care.
- Communicating effectively with all parties involved in the care of mothers and infants.

The role requires staying updated on educational advancements, new technologies, and research consistent with the International Lactation Consultant Association.

Qualifications:
- Must be a graduate from an accredited nursing program.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred.
- Current Kansas licensure is required.
- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification is mandatory.
- Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of ILCA theories and principles.
- A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in maternal/neonatal nursing.
