Extruder Operator Position Overview

Available for All Shifts

The Extruder Operator is responsible for overseeing daily operations of multiple extrusion lines while collaborating with production staff engaged in the manufacturing process. This role requires a solid understanding of various industry concepts, practices, and procedures. The position entails a range of responsibilities, demanding creativity and independent thinking.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Fulfill a standard work week of 40 hours.
  • Comprehend and execute production processes effectively.
  • Disassemble, clean, and set up extrusion dies for machines ranging from 2 1⁄2" to 3 1⁄2".
  • Handle materials, including mixing and blending virgin or reprocessed materials with colorants.
  • Perform die cleaning, maintenance, and proper storage.
  • Possess a fundamental understanding of the extrusion process from raw materials to finished products.
  • Identify and classify materials accurately.
  • Wire dies with heater bands as needed.
  • Operate and maintain Burn Out Ovens.
  • Manage the operation and upkeep of extrusion machines.
  • Understand the operation and maintenance of downstream equipment such as pullers, saws, and cutters.
  • Have a basic grasp of equipment like encoders, foot counters, rate meters, drives, pumps, compressors, coilers, and punches.
  • Initiate and maintain tubing profile extrusions and basic plastic extrusions.
  • Oversee downstream equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Operate encoders, drives, counters, pumps, punches, coilers, and compressors effectively.
  • Start and maintain complex profile extrusions, including co-extrusions with various materials.

Quality Control Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and visualize blueprint drawings accurately.
  • Utilize dial calipers and other measuring instruments proficiently.

Documentation Requirements:

Responsible for maintaining all production-related documentation.

Physical Demands:

The physical requirements for this position include the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations. Duties may involve sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Regularly, the employee must stand, walk, and use hands for various tasks. The role may require lifting up to 100 pounds frequently and occasionally lifting more than 100 pounds.

Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily. The following qualifications are essential:

Education and Experience: A high school diploma or GED is mandatory, along with three to five years of experience in custom profile extrusion operations within the plastics industry.

No special licenses or certifications are required.

Communication Skills:

Effective written communication skills are necessary to convey technical and non-technical information clearly.

Mathematical Skills:

Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, are required.
