Crisis Counselor Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Crisis Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) to join our team at Behavioral Health Services of VA. As a Crisis QMHP, you will play a vital role in offering support and intervention to individuals facing crisis situations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct crisis assessments and develop crisis stabilization plans for individuals in crisis
  • Provide short-term crisis counseling and intervention to clients
  • Coordinate with other professionals and community resources to ensure comprehensive care for clients
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of client interactions and progress
  • Participate in team meetings and trainings to stay current on best practices and protocols
  • Respond to crisis situations in a timely and effective manner, ensuring the safety and well-being of clients and staff
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in human services (e.g., counseling, social work, psychology)
  • Valid QMHP certification in the state of Virginia
  • Experience working with individuals in crisis or in a mental health setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of professionals
  • Proficiency in electronic health record systems
