Job Overview

The Welding Specialist is responsible for developing and maintaining welding procedure specifications and related documentation. This role involves overseeing the qualification of welding procedures and documenting the outcomes. The Welding Specialist collaborates closely with Welding Engineers to create mock-ups and conduct necessary testing as per customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the welding programs database effectively.
  • Conduct and facilitate welding procedure qualifications to meet specifications, ensuring accurate data recording and maintenance.
  • Facilitate the qualification of welders.
  • Perform tube to tube sheet mock-ups as required.
  • Conduct basic maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanized, automatic, and orbital welding equipment to address daily welding issues.
  • Support maintenance and welding engineering teams in the operation of mechanized, automatic, and orbital welding equipment for advanced troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Assist Welding Engineering in the development of new welding processes and procedures.
  • Provide training and support to welders/operators in production, evaluating welds against applicable standards.
  • Maintain effective communication and work independently to support production welding operators.
  • Understand production welding inspection requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Operate and load welding programs onto programmable Polysoude welding machines and perform minor maintenance as needed.
  • Procure and prepare test plates for evaluation.
  • Coordinate laboratory testing as required.
  • Document procedure qualification records and welder performance qualification records in accordance with relevant standards.
  • Engage with Shop Leads and Welding Engineers daily to discuss activity requirements.
  • Adhere to quality management system procedures consistently.

Qualifications:

• 5-7 years of relevant welding experience.

• Proficient computer skills are essential.

• Solid practical knowledge of applicable materials, fabrication, and product technology.

• A high school diploma or GED/BOCES is required.

• Technical aptitude is necessary.

• Must successfully pass an eye examination, including a color blindness test.
