As a Breast Imaging Specialist, your role will involve providing mammography screenings, diagnostic assessments, and interventional services, ensuring high-quality care for patients.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Accurately positioning patients, determining exposure parameters, and operating mammography machinery. Evaluating processed images for quality assurance. Informing patients about the procedure and ensuring their comfort and understanding. Reporting any equipment issues to the appropriate channels and assisting with calibration and record-keeping.
The ideal candidate will:
Arrive at work with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. Be capable of working independently with minimal oversight. Possess a solid understanding of anatomy and related pathologies. Hold current registration as a Technologist with The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists R.T.(R) (ARRT).
Certification requirements:
R.T.(R) (M) (ARRT) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification are mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:
Review mammography requests and computer exam forms to ascertain the required examination type.
Correctly position patients, determine exposure factors, and operate mammography equipment according to established protocols to capture high-quality images.
Assess processed images for quality and the necessity for additional captures.Educate patients about procedures, equipment, and examinations to ensure understanding and cooperation.
Ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the examination process.
Acquire, archive, transmit, and print images via CAD, and complete after-hours image transmission and necessary documentation.
Promptly report any equipment malfunctions to the help desk and PACS Administrator.
Process billing through RIS. Assist with compliance to all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as with credentialing bodies (ACR, MQSA, Medicare, Medicaid, FDA, etc.). Support instrument calibration and record-keeping to maintain quality assurance standards.
Conduct equipment checks to ensure proper functionality and notify clinical engineering of any issues.Ensure that examination rooms are well-stocked with linens and necessary medical supplies.
Provide guidance and mentorship to new staff and students.
Continuously seek to enhance technical knowledge and skills through participation in training programs and professional development sessions.
May rotate through various diagnostic imaging modalities, sites, and locations.Other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements:
Graduate from an accredited Radiologic Technology program. Certifications: Must be a Registered Technologist credentialed by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists R.T.(R) (ARRT), in good standing.
Mammography Certification:
R.T.(R) (M) (ARRT). Current state licensure (RL) is required prior to employment.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification:
Knowledge of anatomy and related pathologies is essential.
Strong communication skills are vital for effective collaboration with Radiologists and physicians to ensure proper patient imaging.
Ability to work well with minimal supervision is crucial.
Work Experience:
A minimum of one year of experience as a General Radiologic Technologist is preferred.
Successful completion of 40 hours of mammography training is required.
Physical Requirements:
Requires prolonged standing and walking.
Must be capable of lifting or assisting with lifting patients of varying weights and handling equipment daily.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Adhere to standard precautions using personal protective equipment as necessary.
