The Position

We are seeking a Dedicated Support Specialist to join our team of dedicated educators. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in fostering a culture of achievement and supporting students in their academic and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Student Support: Provide direct support to assigned students, both inside and outside the classroom, to ensure their academic and personal needs are met.
  • Assist with Daily Tasks: Assist students with daily tasks such as classwork, assignments, and personal care needs as required.
  • Implement Strategies: Implement strategies outlined in Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to support students' learning and development.
  • Foster a Supportive Environment: Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages students' engagement and participation.
Collaboration
  • Collaborate with Teachers: Collaborate with classroom teachers and other educational professionals to develop and implement instructional plans tailored to meet the individual needs of assigned students.
  • Communicate with Team Members: Communicate regularly with teachers, therapists, and other team members to discuss student progress and adjust support strategies as needed.
  • Participate in Meetings: Participate in team meetings, IEP meetings, coaching meetings, and other professional development opportunities as required.
  • Act as Substitute: May act as a substitute for absent teachers as needed.
Behavioral Support
  • Implement Behavior Management Strategies: Implement behavior management strategies to support students in developing appropriate social skills and behaviors.
  • Provide Positive Reinforcement: Provide positive reinforcement and encouragement to students, reinforcing desired behaviors and addressing challenging behaviors in a supportive manner.
  • Develop Behavior Intervention Plans: Work with teachers and behavioral specialists to develop and implement behavior intervention plans as necessary.
Documentation & Family Engagement
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Maintain accurate records of student progress, including daily activities, behavior observations, and academic achievements.
  • Prepare Reports: Prepare written reports and updates for teachers, parents, and other stakeholders on student progress and challenges when required.
  • Connect with Families: Connect with families on a regular basis and document all communication.
Assistance with Classroom Activities
  • Assist Teachers: Assist teachers with classroom activities, including setting up materials, facilitating group work, and supervising students during transitions.
  • Provide One-on-One Instruction: Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to students as directed by the teacher when the assigned student is absent.
  • Support Students during Assessments: Support students during assessments and evaluations, ensuring they have the necessary accommodations and modifications.
Requirements
  • Professional Experience: 1-2 years of professional experience.
  • Education: High School Diploma required; Associate's/Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience Working with Students: Experience working with students in disadvantaged communities (e.g. tutoring, mentoring, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience Working with Students with Disabilities: Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
  • Behavior Support Strategies: Working knowledge of behavior support strategies.
