Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Engineer to join our team at Manatee County, FL. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for providing professional engineering services for transportation projects, including roadways, intersections, sidewalks, and bridges. You will also provide design and review services for conceptual and final designs, project analysis and cost estimating, construction certification, utility conflict resolution, and origination of infrastructure standards and specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the preparation of final drawings and design calculations for new construction at existing facilities.
  • Coordinate design and project management requirements, as dictated by operating needs.
  • Lead daily activities of a small team, assign work, and ensure completion according to established standards, procedures, and timeframes.
  • Provide professional engineering assistance, including non-project engineering, to assist Public Works staff and other departments.
  • Prepare, sign, and seal permit applications to outside agencies.
  • Review and research development projects for compliance with the Comprehensive Plan, Land Development Code, and County design standards.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of current best practices, trends, laws, and issues affecting area of expertise.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related engineering field.
  • 6 or more years of progressively responsible engineering experience related to area of assignment.
  • Current Florida Professional Engineer (P.E.) License required.
  • One or more years as Engineer of Record.
  • Valid driver license required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of engineering, design, permitting, preparation of construction plan sets, and specification and bid packages.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job responsibilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, public presentation skills, and interpersonal skills.
