Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Surgical Technologist to join our team in Labor and Delivery. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients, maintaining aseptic techniques, and providing comfort and support to patients and families.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients, including preparing patient skin for surgery and maintaining aseptic techniques.
  • Provide comfort and support to patients and families, demonstrating sensitivity to patient care and privacy.
  • Transport patients to and from the Operating Room suite, positioning patients according to the type of surgery.
  • Identify and care for biological specimens, preparing the Operating Room by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the type of case.
  • Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Under the direction of a professional nurse, perform all processes that relate to the delivery of direct patient care and assistance care in the OR prior to and during any surgical procedure.
  • Establish and maintain the sterile field, pass instruments, and sutures to the physician, and assist as directed by the physician.
  • Use the physician preference card as a beginning point when pulling cases and setting up the OR.
  • Ensure that preference cards are kept up to date and as complete as possible.
  • Work effectively as a member of the team caring for the patient.
  • Cooperate in team planning and execution.
  • Maintain a safe environment by always implementing technical and aseptic practices.
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise in the use and care of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Adhere to Universal Barrier Precautions for both patient and own safety in all patient care situations.
  • Demonstrate competence to monitor and control the surgical environment.
  • Maintain proper traffic control, dress codes, and adherence to OR sanitation policies and procedures.
  • Familiar with facility policy and procedure regarding decontamination, processing, and sterilization of all instruments and supplies that are processed within the facility.
  • Demonstrate competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of patients served by the department.
  • Appropriately adapt assigned patient assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each patient served.

Requirements:

Education/Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of the Surgical Technology program or an accredited LVN/LPN program is required.

Experience

  • 2 or more years of experience preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • BLS required.
  • Certification of Surgical Technologist from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting within 180 days of graduation or LVN/LPN License required.
