Job Overview:

The Lead Mainframe Systems Engineer is responsible for the installation and maintenance of mainframe operating systems, ensuring the stability, performance, and security of our mainframe environment while fostering innovation and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess system specifications, input/output processes, and compatibility of hardware/software.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve intricate technical issues related to mainframe systems and applications.
  • Oversee the administration, configuration, and maintenance of mainframe systems, including hardware, operating systems, and software components.
  • Enhance operational effectiveness by monitoring and adjusting mainframe operating systems.
  • Uphold quality service by establishing and enforcing organizational standards.
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and best practices to maintain installation records.
  • Identify root causes of problems and provide technical assistance to applications and support staff.
  • Develop and implement backup and disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuity.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on mainframe technologies, providing strategic guidance to senior management.
  • Lead initiatives for continuous improvement to modernize mainframe infrastructure and processes.
  • Deliver technical guidance and support to team members.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for problem resolution and critical incidents.

This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related field with eight (8) years of experience in mainframe infrastructure technical software and hardware analysis, programming, and installation; or a High School Diploma/GED with twelve (12) years of relevant experience.
  • Two (2) years of experience leading a small team.
  • Experience with installation and support of Mainframe system products such as ZOS, CICS, MQ, DB2, Storage, Automation, ZLINUX, or Networking.
  • Proficient in problem determination, installation, support of mainframe products, disaster recovery, and performance tuning.
  • Experience managing issues with vendor support centers.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Capability to work under limited supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Deep understanding of mainframe hardware.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills to inspire and motivate team members.

This position requires proximity to a Branch, Consumer Operations, or Professional Office Building. Regions will not provide relocation assistance for this role.
