Job Title: Human Factors Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Human Factors Engineer to join our team at Design Science. As a Human Factors Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and usability of our medical devices.

Job Summary

The Human Factors Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to design and develop medical devices that meet the needs of patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers. This includes conducting research and usability testing, leading interactions with stakeholders, and contributing to internal process improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and usability testing to identify design opportunities and optimize device usability
  • Lead interactions with internal and external stakeholders, including presentations of study or research results
  • Contribute to internal process improvement initiatives to enhance team efficiency and effectiveness
  • Mentor Associate Engineers/Researchers and deliver direct reports
  • Develop and maintain expertise in human factors engineering principles and practices
Requirements
  • Master's degree in human factors engineering, biomedical engineering, industrial engineering, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in human factors engineering or a related field
  • Experience working in healthcare or another safety-critical industry
  • Demonstrated track record of deploying various research techniques to collect and process data
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Ability to work full-time at the Design Science office in Philadelphia, PA or Evanston, IL
  • Ability to travel 30% of the time, domestically and internationally
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience creating usability file deliverables, such as application specifications and user interface requirements
  • Demonstrable understanding of FDA regulatory guidance on the safety and usability of medical devices
  • Familiarity with healthcare industry guidance, such as AAMI/ANSI HE75:2009 and IEC 62366-2:2016
