The Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) is seeking dedicated individuals interested in a career in public safety.
Correctional Security Officers receive paid training, uniforms, and opportunities for career advancement while enjoying comprehensive benefits.
Correctional Security Officers play a vital role in the public safety mission by ensuring the safety and security of the public, staff, and supervisees, while maintaining effective custody and control in accordance with established policies and procedures.
This is achieved through the application of evidence-based practices and principles that enhance communication strategies and role modeling as part of collaborative multi-disciplinary teams addressing the needs of supervisees.
Officers are responsible for providing security over adult supervisees at the facility and during transport; they supervise daily activities of supervisees while observing and documenting their behavior and movements to ensure their safe and secure confinement.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Valid Driver's License. Proven ability to read and understand workplace policies and procedures and to prepare workplace reports and documentation. Ability to lawfully possess a firearm in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Ability to successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, including medical screening, background check, and drug testing, including screening for marijuana use.
Additional Considerations
Stable employment history. Military or related criminal justice experience.
Preferred candidates are at least 21 years old (a waiver may be granted by the Unit Head for individuals aged 18-20).

Background Investigation Requirements:

Investigations may include fingerprint checks (State Police, FBI); local agency checks; employment verification; verification of education (relevant to employment); credit checks; and other checks based on the position.
