Project Overview:
This internship aims to enhance a long-standing initiative by the Alliance of Sustainable Farms to empower Mississippi's small-scale underserved agricultural producers and communities in adopting sustainable conservation methods.
Mr. Keith Benson, the founding director of the Alliance, has been at the helm of the organization since its establishment in 2011. Under his guidance, the Alliance has evolved from a modest community organization in the Mississippi Delta into a prominent state and regional advocate for sustainable practices:
- Showcasing and encouraging the integration of sustainable conservation techniques and suitable practices.
- Offering continuous training, technical guidance, and support to small-scale underserved agricultural producers.
Mr. Benson will oversee the initial stages of intern supervision, with the primary operational base being the Davis Demonstration Farm in Winona, Mississippi, a collaboration between the Alliance and Davis Farm.
Intern Responsibilities:Intern duties will encompass, but are not limited to:
- Assisting in the enhancement of Mississippi's network of small-scale underserved farmers and producers;
- Facilitating the demonstration and promotion of sustainable conservation techniques and relevant technologies;
- Coordinating field days and training sessions while providing technical assistance and support to producers;
- Managing online presence and social media, including updating the Alliance's digital platforms and generating farm profiles;
- Contributing to the interactive mapping of farms, market channels, and public/private land inventories.
Intern Benefits:
- $600 weekly living stipend
- $1,000 monthly housing allowance (or housing provided)
- $1,100 one-time travel reimbursement
