Medical Assistant

The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care and assists patients and their families through the healthcare system by acting as a patient advocate.
This role involves preparing for patient appointments, interviewing patients to obtain reason for visit, and documenting in electronic health records.
The Medical Assistant will work with patients to develop self-management goals, provide insurance, referral, and prior authorization support, and conduct patient outreach to follow up on hospital admissions and discharges.
This position requires effective communication, problem-solving, and multitasking skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities- Prepare for patient appointments by reviewing and updating patient records
- Interview patients to obtain reason for visit and document in electronic health records
- Obtain and record patient vital signs according to protocol
- Prepare exam rooms and patients for exams and procedures
- Maintain patient confidentiality and document accurately in electronic health records
- Communicate with patients and other members of the care team in a timely and professional manner
- Administer medications and immunizations according to protocol
- Clean and sterilize instruments per protocol
- Collect specimens and perform testing as indicated
- Review patient plans and educate patients on discharge instructions
- Perform other duties as assigned, such as translation and travel to other locations
- Certification to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation for the healthcare professional (CPR) and AED through courses that follow the guidelines from the American Heart Association and Red Cross
- Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety for all specialty behavioral health locations
- High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
- Graduation from an approved medical assistant training program with one or more years of experience
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask
- Basic computer proficiency to include Windows, MS Office, and internet
