Job Summary

The City of Tomball is seeking a highly skilled Facilities Maintenance Specialist to join our Public Works Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing maintenance, repairs, and construction of above-average difficulty to ensure the functioning of all municipal and public buildings and facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist and coordinate contractual repair of public buildings and facilities.
  • Perform minor roof repairs for leak control.
  • Perform routine building maintenance tasks involving carpentry, painting, plumbing, heating/air conditioning, and minor electrical and mechanical work.
  • Check and perform preventive maintenance on boilers, air conditioning, and heating equipment and controls, emergency generators, air compressors, sump pumps, and sprinkler systems.
  • Schedule routine maintenance and daily work.
  • Receive written and oral work assignments from supervisor and assist in determining necessary equipment, personnel, and material needs.
  • Install portable workstations, cabinets, floor tiles, baseboards, phone and computer cable, public address systems, carpet, bike racks, and handrails.
  • Generate written and oral reports of work completed and in progress and work needing to be done by others.
  • Clean and maintain indoor and outdoor areas.
  • Repair doors, floors, decks, lockers, roofs, ceilings, walls, and gates and various types of office furniture.
  • Build and paint a variety of city facilities and structures, using hand and power tools.
  • Change bulbs, plugs, ballasts, switches, and fixtures and perform minor electrical repairs on de-energized lines.
  • Move boxes, furniture, and fixtures.
  • Build, paint, repair, and refinish cabinets, bookcases, and shelves, using power saws, sanders, and planers.
  • Obtain and set up equipment, tools, and materials needed for work.
  • Fill out material requisitions, incident reports, inspection sheets, and other forms.
  • Replace valves, pumps, motors, and switches.
  • Re-build tape and paint sheet rock.
  • Keep records.
  • Assess and maintain facility needs inventory.
  • Clean up spills and unsanitary conditions in City buildings when they occur.
  • Repair and/or report vandalism, damage, or major maintenance requirements.
  • Implement a facilities maintenance program.
  • Paint and restripe City roadways.
  • Install new and repair existing street signs throughout the city.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience in construction, building maintenance, or a related field, plus experience operating a variety of equipment and hand tools.
  • Current and valid Class C Texas Driver's License with a driving record that meets City guidelines.
