Job Overview

The City of Tomball is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Facilities Maintenance Specialist within the Public Works Department. This position involves performing maintenance, repairs, and construction tasks of considerable complexity to ensure the operational integrity of municipal and public facilities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and oversee contractual repairs for public structures and facilities.
  • Conduct minor roof repairs to manage leaks effectively.
  • Execute routine maintenance tasks including carpentry, painting, plumbing, HVAC, and minor electrical and mechanical work as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on various systems such as boilers, air conditioning units, heating equipment, emergency generators, air compressors, sump pumps, and sprinkler systems.
  • Plan and schedule routine maintenance and daily tasks.
  • Receive and interpret work assignments from supervisors, determining necessary resources and materials.
  • Install and maintain portable workstations, cabinets, flooring, and various fixtures.
  • Prepare written and verbal reports detailing completed work, ongoing projects, and tasks requiring attention from others.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Repair various structures and furniture, including doors, floors, roofs, and walls.
  • Utilize hand and power tools to construct and paint city facilities.
  • Perform minor electrical repairs on de-energized lines, including changing bulbs and fixtures.
  • Assist in moving furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Construct and refurbish cabinets and shelves using appropriate tools.
  • Procure and set up necessary equipment and materials for tasks.
  • Complete documentation such as material requisitions and inspection reports.
  • Replace mechanical components such as valves and motors.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities.
  • Assess and manage facility inventory needs.
  • Address spills and unsanitary conditions promptly.
  • Report and address vandalism or significant maintenance issues.
  • Implement a comprehensive facilities maintenance program.
  • Paint and restripe roadways as required.
  • Install and repair street signage throughout the city.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience in construction or building maintenance, including proficiency with various tools and equipment.
  • Possession of a valid Class C Texas Driver's License with a driving record that meets city standards.

Compensation:

Salary Range: $43,909 - $46,104 (Hiring Range)
Salary Range: $43,909 - $65,853 (Dependent on experience and qualifications)
