Medical Provider in Correctional Healthcare

FirstClass Healthcare is seeking a highly skilled Medical Provider to join our team in a Correctional Medicine setting. As an Advanced Practice Provider, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to incarcerated individuals within the correctional facility.
Key Responsibilities- Medical Assessment and Treatment: Conduct thorough medical assessments of inmates, including physical examinations, review of medical histories, and evaluation of symptoms to diagnose and treat various health conditions.
- Treatment Planning and Medication Management: Develop individualized treatment plans for inmates based on their medical conditions, taking into consideration the constraints of the correctional environment and available resources. Prescribe medications as needed and ensure compliance with prescribed treatments.
- Emergency Response and Chronic Disease Management: Respond promptly to medical emergencies within the correctional facility and initiate appropriate lifesaving interventions until higher-level medical care is available. Oversee the management of chronic medical conditions among inmates, such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and HIV/AIDS.
- Mental Health Care and Collaboration: Collaborate with our mental health team of professionals to address the mental health needs of inmates to assure appropriate management of psychiatric conditions. Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure a coordinated and multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
- Documentation and Safety: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, documenting all patient encounters, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with facility policies and legal requirements. Adhere to the security protocols and guidelines within the correctional facility to maintain a safe and secure environment for both staff and inmates.
- Continuing Education and Professionalism: Stay updated with the latest developments in correctional medicine, attend training sessions, engage in continuous professional development to enhance medical knowledge and skills, and attend any necessary meetings. Uphold ethical standards and maintain professionalism in all interactions with inmates, colleagues, and facility staff.
- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the state where the correctional facility is located.
- Board Certification as an APP in a relevant specialty is preferred.
- Previous experience in primary care/internal medicine, urgent care, or correctional medicine is preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to handle stressful situations calmly, direct the supporting medical team, and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with inmates, correctional staff, and other healthcare professionals.
- Understanding of the unique challenges of providing medical care within a correctional setting.
