About the Role:

The Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist will provide therapeutic recreation services to adult patients, including evaluation, treatment planning, and implementation of an individualized treatment program and related documentation and communication.

Responsibilities:

  • Engages in population-appropriate communication.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
  • Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
  • Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
  • Interprets population-related data and plans care appropriately.
  • Completes a functional assessment of the patient using appropriate therapeutic assessment tools.
  • Develops individualized treatment programs consistent with patient's diagnosis, status, and goals.
  • Establishes a plan of care that includes realistic and measurable goals in relation to the patient's goals, diagnosis, prognosis, learning ability of patient and caregiver, physical/mental status, and anticipated lifestyle.
  • Makes recommendations for discharge, including appropriate referrals.
  • Develops and implements an individualized treatment program in collaboration with the treatment team that is consistent with patient diagnosis, status, and goals.
  • Develops and implements patient activities in collaboration with other team members as appropriate.
  • Identifies patients appropriate for activities based on functional status.
  • Leads/co-leads therapeutic groups and individual activities for patients.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation (preferred) or related field or 90-hr. course for activity professionals and continuing education.
  • Must have the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must be able to deal tactfully with team members, other staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
  • Must be able to plan, organize, and conduct a variety of activities.
  • Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing activity practices.
