Instrumentation Technician Job Description

Eastern Controls Inc., a leading manufacturer's representative partner of Endress+Hauser Inc., is seeking an experienced Instrumentation Technician to join their team in NJ and the greater NYC metro area. This position entails both in-house repairs and travel to customer sites, including power, energy, process, chemical, manufacturing, life sciences, pharma, food and beverage, and commercial. The successful candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing a variety of instrumentation lines based on manufacturer's specifications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform calibration and repairs based on manufacturer's specifications
  • Read and understand PO/appointment invites and scope of work, ensuring necessary tools are on-hand for job assignment
  • Review and collaborate with coordinator to ensure proper information is included in job assignment for efficient execution
  • Ensure work vehicles are up-to-date on maintenance, clean, and well-organized, and complete trip documentation within one week
  • Provide technical support and information to customers and sales staff as needed, respond to scheduled and unscheduled work orders, and on-call requests outside of set work hours
  • Follow ECI QA procedures and work instructions as directed in ECI service shop and on-site
  • Look for additional opportunities within accounts, promote other services to customers where applicable, and report information to services operations manager
  • Manage projects, including outage work and long-term assignments, in conjunction with services operations manager
  • Perform all duties according to safety procedures and safety best practices, notifying supervisor of any safety concerns on or off-site
Qualifications and Profile:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate degree in technical field preferred)
  • Process instrument experience
  • 1-5 years in related field or environment (experience as an electromechanical field tech doing calibration and repairs preferred)
  • Demonstrates basic electrical and mechanical knowledge and any knowledge of electrical and hydraulic actuators and familiarity with Pneumatics is a strong plus
  • Ability and knowledge of how to use hand tools and electronic testing equipment and a strong technical aptitude with hands-on troubleshooting & repair skills
  • Must be able to obtain certifications in all required ECI and Principal programs, including TWIC and PSM credentials
  • Forklift, Scissors, lift, and confined spaces certification may also be required
  • Ability to multitask, strong attention to detail, strong communication and interpersonal skills, good judgment, and a curiosity and desire to learn
  • Can work independently and as a team
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record
