Aerial Systems Operations Specialist

The Aerial Systems Operations Specialist is essential to the Field Operations process, responsible for gathering critical data and imagery to meet both company and client needs. This role involves the execution of operations, system setup, pre-flight and post-flight inspections, maintenance, and limited repair tasks for airborne sensor systems and GPS instruments on various airborne platforms. The position is primarily field-based, requiring remote work when not engaged in operational duties.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe primary duties include, but are not limited to:
- Operating airborne sensor platforms within the Electric Utility sector.
- Maintaining and updating flight logs and daily activity reports.
- Ensuring the quality of collected data through monitoring.
- Conducting routine maintenance and troubleshooting of in-flight equipment.
- Performing pre-flight and post-flight checks on navigation paths to guarantee comprehensive data coverage.
- Contributing to the quality management system by documenting processes and suggesting improvements.
- Troubleshooting and executing limited system repairs.
- Enhancing best practices for the troubleshooting of integrated systems.
- Integrating, tuning, and testing optical devices.
- Utilizing proprietary software for debugging, tuning, and testing complex electromechanical systems.
- Meeting deadlines to ensure timely delivery for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborating with other departments to resolve issues and enhance operational outcomes.
- Providing field support for system installation, calibration, customer training, and program/process development.
- Continuously improving company processes related to system specifications, configuration control, and documentation.
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
- Familiarity with troubleshooting methods and the ability to interpret technical drawings, data sheets, and schematics.
- Strong professional skills in customer relations.
- Proficiency in a Microsoft Office environment, including Windows, Excel, and Word.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- The capacity to meet company deadlines for customer deliverables.
- A collaborative approach to improving operations and processes.
- Preferred Qualifications
- One year of experience as a Helicopter Crewmember (Flight Engineer, Flight Mechanic, Crew Chief).
- Two years of experience with Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) (Group 2, 2/3, 3) and a Remote Pilot License (Part 107).
- Prior experience as an Airborne Payload Operator.
- Experience in the installation and maintenance of sensors (e.g., LiDAR, GPS, and specialized camera sensors).
- An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in electronics, aircraft systems, remote sensing, unmanned systems, mechanical technology, or a related field.
This role demands physical capabilities to successfully perform essential functions. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities. The position involves flying in helicopters under various weather conditions for extended periods. System installation, troubleshooting, repair, and removal primarily occur in active flight line environments. Candidates should be prepared for long durations of standing, sitting, and working around aircraft, with all associated hazards. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be necessary for certain tasks, and the ability to lift up to 70 lbs is required.
