Position Overview:

The role of the Catholic Educator is pivotal in fostering the mission of the Diocese of Tucson, which aims to evangelize, catechize, and educate youth within a Catholic educational framework. The educator is expected to embody the principles of the Gospel and Catholic teachings both in professional duties and personal conduct.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold and promote the distinctive Catholic mission of the institution by ensuring all actions and teachings align with the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Exemplify Gospel values through active participation in a faith community and demonstrate a commitment to personal faith development.
  • Contribute to the development of the School's faith community by engaging in and assisting with religious and service-oriented activities.
  • Facilitate daily classroom prayers to foster a spiritual environment.
  • Exhibit strong planning capabilities by crafting lessons that meet academic objectives and integrate a Catholic religious curriculum.
  • Demonstrate teaching proficiency by maintaining comprehensive knowledge of both academic and religious curricula, effectively communicating with students, and organizing classroom activities to enhance learning.
  • Adapt to online teaching methods as necessary, utilizing platforms such as Google Classroom for educational delivery.
  • Implement effective evaluation techniques that align with curriculum goals and provide clear assessments of student progress.
  • Establish a consistent approach to discipline that encourages self-regulation and fosters a positive self-image among students.
  • Maintain a conducive and engaging learning environment.
  • Collaborate with School and Diocesan administration, fostering positive relationships with students and parents while attending faculty meetings and training sessions punctually.
  • Exhibit professional responsibility by adhering to School policies and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Follow directives from the principal and undertake additional duties as assigned.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

The educator must possess coordination and manual dexterity, along with normal mental and visual capabilities, and the ability to lift as necessary in a typical educational setting.

Qualifications:

  • A strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership within the Roman Catholic Church, with practicing Catholics expected to be in full communion with the Church.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including proficiency in written, oral, public speaking, and presentation formats.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; must be organized, self-motivated, and a collaborative team member.
  • Availability for evening and weekend responsibilities as required; reliable transportation is essential.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in computer technology, including word processing and spreadsheet applications, while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Flexibility in assessing needs and adapting strategies within a ministerial context.
  • Completion of a criminal history and background check is mandatory.
  • Professional demeanor and adherence to a neat personal appearance.

Education and Experience:

  • A completed bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Certification as a Teacher, with renewal as per state regulations.
  • Completion of Level I of the Diocesan Ministry Certification within three years.
