Role Summary: Under the guidance of the school principal, the educator is tasked with advancing the mission of the Diocese of Tucson to evangelize, catechize, and educate young individuals within a Catholic educational framework. The instructor is expected to embody the principles of the Gospel and Catholic teachings both in the classroom and in personal conduct, adhering to the call of the faith.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the distinct Catholic mission of the institution by communicating, acting, and teaching in alignment with the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church. Any beliefs or actions contrary to these teachings are not permissible.
- Exemplify Gospel values through active participation in a faith community and a commitment to personal spiritual growth; strive to reflect the teachings of Jesus through actions and demeanor.
- Contribute to the development of the school's faith community by actively engaging in and assisting with religious and service-oriented events.
- Facilitate daily classroom prayers.
- Exhibit effective lesson planning skills by creating educational activities aimed at achieving the academic objectives set forth by the school, along with the religious curriculum as defined by the institution.
- Demonstrate proficiency in teaching by possessing a comprehensive understanding of both academic and religious curricula, effectively communicating with students, and organizing classroom resources to enhance learning and engagement.
- Be prepared to teach in a virtual learning environment when necessary, utilizing platforms such as Google Classroom or similar tools.
- Develop and implement assessment methods that are directly linked to curriculum goals and learning outcomes; consistently evaluate student progress in a clear and effective manner.
- Establish a consistent approach to discipline that fosters self-regulation and a positive self-image among students; maintain high expectations for student behavior and address any misconduct appropriately.
- Ensure a functional and welcoming learning atmosphere.
- Collaborate with school and diocesan leadership; work cooperatively with colleagues to foster positive relationships with students and their families. Attendance at faculty meetings and training sessions is essential.
- Exhibit professional responsibility in upholding school policies and regulations at all times.
- Maintain confidentiality, demonstrate sound judgment in appearance and conduct, and adhere to the school's dress code.
- Follow directives from the principal and undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Physical and Mental Requirements: The educator must possess coordination and manual dexterity, normal cognitive and visual capabilities, and the ability to lift as necessary in a typical educational setting.
Essential Activities: Walking, sitting, standing, bending, reaching, speaking, handling materials, listening, carrying items, and using a keyboard.
Qualifications:
- A strong commitment to the mission of promoting lay leadership within the Roman Catholic Church. If a baptized Catholic, must be an active member in full communion with the Church.
- Exceptional communication skills, including proficiency in writing, speaking, public presentations, and teaching.
- Strong interpersonal skills; must be organized, self-motivated, and a collaborative team member.
- Availability for evening and weekend responsibilities as required; must have reliable transportation.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Proficiency in computer technology, including word processing and spreadsheet applications; must maintain confidentiality.
- Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies, adapting as necessary in a ministerial context.
- Completion of a criminal history and background check is required.
- Professional demeanor and a neat personal appearance are essential.
Education and Experience:
- A completed bachelor's degree or higher.
- State certification as a teacher, with renewal as mandated by law.
- Completion of Level I of the Diocesan Ministry Certification within three years.
