As a Patient Access Representative Associate at Optum, you will play a vital role in supporting the Allina Health account. Your primary responsibility will be to greet and welcome patients in person, providing a standard registration process by collecting demographic and financial data and entering information into an electronic medical record.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greets and welcomes patients in person
  • Collects demographic and insurance information
  • Checks in and interviews patients to complete appropriate paperwork
  • Directs patients to their appointment or procedure
  • May assist in scheduling add-on appointments
  • Documents any issues and resolutions in electronic medical records
  • Resolves claim issues or registration errors on patient accounts
  • Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits information for payers and interprets results focusing on complex billing situations
  • Obtains cost information and explains it to patients if necessary
  • Collects co-pay or deductibles and responds to questions regarding financial assistance programs available. Refers complex questions as needed
  • Screens and approves patients for financial assistance programs
  • Assists and counsels patients with the application process for available financial assistance programs
  • Provides technical or functional direction for employees
  • Assists patients in completing request for information forms and submits them to the appropriate department
  • Obtains signatures from patients as needed
  • May gather medical record information from all departments for collection
  • Provides customer service for inbound and outbound telephone calls
  • May mentor other staff as needed

Requirements:

  • 6+ months of customer service experience in an office/hospital setting
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to work Monday-Friday from 8:30am – 5:00pm
  • Ability to work occasional weekends, as the business requires
  • Must be 18 years of age or older

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Revenue cycle experience
  • General office experience
  • Epic experience

Physical Demands:

  • Consistent walking, standing, bending, turning, etc.
  • Lifting weight up to 10 lbs. occasionally, up to 2-5 lbs. frequently
